Alligator clamped to this:

Kinja'd!!!

which is an ignition switch (the key)

and this:

Kinja'd!!!

which is the clutch pedal.

(also pictured, wires, zippy ties.)

the same clutch pedal and wires

Kinja'd!!!

This is not the worst shade tree wiring I’ve ever seen, just the worst I saw today. What’s the worst, most hillbilliest, heinous, dangerous, “what were they thinking” kind of wiring surprises have you come across? (sorry I’ve been away, been busy hilbillying on big ‘ol trucks. )

99% of aftermarket alarm systems. They’re like some sort of disease worse than rust.

A 60A breaker feeding 6 AWG wires through a house that had 12 AWG wires tapping into it to feed each outlet. That place scared me.

Well, there is my house where the entire first floor including outlets, lights and the hood microwave unit, were on one circuit. Turn on the vacuum while somebody’s nuking a burrito? **Click** Darkness. I was at least able to get the microwave and fridge on their own when we remodeled the kitchen. In my car I ended up ripping out the entire wiring harness because it was so old and had been spliced in to so many times, but there were no real horrors. The worst was that they used the resistive wire meant for point ignitions to fire an electronic one.

I’m more of a home improvement guy than a car mechanic, but this old house has a while website devoted to terrible ideas

Fair warning - don’t open that link unless you are wearing every damn bit of PPE you own, because you will NOT feel safe ever again.

My favorite was from years ago. The inspector noticed a row of bats hangng from a rafter and snapped a photo

Only after he got out of the attic and look at the camera did he notice a blacksnake on the rafter above choosing which bat it was going to take.
